Eminent Personalities April 29th is the birth anniversary of revolutionary poet Pavendar Bharathidasan In 2016, the Tamil Nadu Assembly announced that the birth anniversary of poet Bharathidasan would be celebrated as Tamil Poets' Day. About Pavendar Bharathidasan: He was born on April 1891, 29 in Puducherry. His real name was Kanakasubiratnam. He changed his name to Bharathidasan because of his love for Mahakavi Subramanya Bharathiyar. He worked as a Tamil writer. The revolutionary poet, affectionately known as Pavendar, was known by all for his inspiring writings. Bharathidasan wrote in Tamil in all forms of poetry, music, drama, short stories, novels and essays. He was given the Sahitya Academy Award, posthumously in 1970 for his play Pisiranthaiyar (He died in 1964 but he was given this award in 1970 after he died).
