It has issued a Government Order formally notifying the formation of the State’s 38th district with Mayiladuthurai as its headquarters. The new district has been created after the bifurcation of Nagapattinam district. Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on 24 March announced the creation of a new district in Tamil Nadu by bifurcating Nagapattinam. “The government will be carving out Mayiladuthurai from Nagapattinam,” he had said. Mayiladuthurai will serve as the headquarters of the Mayiladuthurai district.
