Project Udbhav is a collaboration between the Army and the United Service Institution of India (USI) which is a defence services think tank. Objective - To synthesise ancient wisdom with contemporary military practices and to forge a unique and holistic approach to address modern security challenges. The project aims to tap into ancient Indian treatises such as Chanakya’s Arthashastra, Kamandaka’s Nitisara, and the Thirukkural by the Tamil poet-saint Thiruvalluvar to glean insights on statecraft, strategy, diplomacy, and warfare.

Important Days First National Current Good Manufacturing Practices Day – 10th October 2023 The first National Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) Day was celebrated across India to create awareness about the critical role of cGMP in the pharmaceutical industry, ensuring the quality and safety of medicinal products. Theme 2023: “cGMP: Transforming Healthcare” The day was observed by Indian Drug Manufacturers’ Association (IDMA), under the guidance from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers. Defence, National Security and Terrorism HADR Exercise CHAKRAVAT 2023    The Annual Joint Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Exercise (AJHE), “CHAKRAVAT 2023” was conducted by the Indian Navy at Goa.  AJHE is the outcome of the directive issued during the Combined Commanders’ Conference of 2015.  It promises to further synergize national efforts and expand its scope by involving eight countries from the Indian Ocean Region. Defence, National Security and Terrorism LCA Tejas successfully test-fires Astra The Indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas successfully fired the Astra indigenous air-to-air missile off the coast of Goa. The missile release was successfully carried out from the aircraft at an altitude of about 20,000 ft. About Astra Astra is a Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air missile to engage and destroy highly manoeuvring supersonic aerial targets. It designed and developed by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI) and other laboratories of the DRDO. Defence, National Security and Terrorism 27th edition of Malabar naval exercise The 27th edition of the multilateral naval exercise Malabar 2023 was concluded in Sydney, Australia. The exercise saw the participation of Ships, Submarines, and aircraft from  Indian Navy Royal Australian Navy Japan Maritime Self-Defence Force US Navy Indian Navy was represented by indigenously built  Destroyer INS Kolkata Frigate INS Sahyadri P8I Maritime Patrol Aircraft Note  The MALABAR naval exercise commenced in 1992 as a bilateral exercise between Indian Navy and US Navy.  Later it included four prominent navies in the Indo-Pacific Region. Panel to curb stress in realty sector An expert committee headed by former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant committee was set up in March 2023 to tackle the problem of incomplete real estate projects based on the recommendation made by the Central Advisory Council under the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.  Key Findings of the Panel  Identifying financial viability as the primary reason for stress in real estate projects. Defence, National Security and Terrorism President Murmu launches warship Vindhyagiri President Droupadi Murmu launched INS Vindhyagiri, the last in the series of three Project 17A (Alpha) frigates built by the Indian Navy at the Kolkata based Garden Reach Ship builders and Engineers (GRSE). The launch was a step towards achieving the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat through indigenous shipbuilding.  Note Following the launch, Vindhyagiri will join its two sister ships at the Out-fitting Jetty at GRSE. About Project 17 A Project 17 Alpha frigates (P-17A) were launched by the Indian Navy in 2019. To construct a series of indigenous stealth guided-missile frigates. Constructed by two companies - Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) and Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). The first stealth ship launched under Project 17A was the Nilgiri, which was launched in 2019. Specific stealth design has radar-absorbent coatings and is low-observable which can make its approach undetectable for the enemies. Defence, National Security and Terrorism Bilateral naval drill 'Zayed Talwar'  Two Indian Navy ships, INS Visakhapatnam and INS Trikand, conducted a bilateral naval maritime partnership exercise with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Navy under the bilateral exercise named 'Zayed Talwar'. Eminent Persons Bindeshwar Pathak Bindeshwar Pathak, Sulabh International founder, Padma Bhushan recipient, and social worker, died. Credited with bringing in the revolutionary Sulabh Complex public toilet system to India, which contributed significantly to reducing open-defecation and manual scavenging. Mr. Pathak had founded Sulabh International Social Services Organisation in 1970 to introduce a public toilet system in India that would go on to become a feature of hundreds of towns.  Note He was given the Padma Bhushan in 1991 for social work and he later became an ambassador for the government's Swachh Bharat Mission. The Sulabh International organication was given the Gandhi Peace Prize for 2016, jointly with the Akshaya Patra Foundation.

Defence, National Security and Terrorism NIA Raids in Kashmir The National Investigation Agency (NIA) raided the premises of hybrid terrorists and overground workers linked with the newly formed offshoots and affiliates of banned terror outfits in Anantnag, Shopian and Pulwama districts of south Kashmir. The newly floated terror outfits under investigation include The Resistance Front, United Liberation Front Jammu & Kashmir, Mujahideen Gazwat-ul-Hind, Jammu & Kashmir Freedom Fighters, Kashmir Tigers, PAAF and others. Defence, National Security and Terrorism Sea Vigil 22’ drill tests security forces’ preparedness in TN The exercise is being held from November 15 to November 18 in Chennai to check the preparedness of security forces and intelligence agencies against possible terrorist attacks along the entire coast of India. About 1,000 personnel were drafted for the exercise from the Navy, the Coast Guard, the Central Industrial Security Force, the National Security Guard (NSG), the Fisheries Department, the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, intelligence agencies, the Mercantile Marine Department, Immigration, Customs, the Coastal Security Group and the police. World Organisations – Pacts and Summits COP 27 at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. The 27th United Nations Climate Change conference is being held from 6 November until 18 November 2022 in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt. At COP 27 India along with some countries stated that Carbon border taxes, which could result in market distortion and aggravate the trust deficit among parties, must be avoided. European Union has proposed a policy called the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism to tax products such as cement and steel, which are extremely carbon intensive, with effect from 2026 BASIC, a group comprising Brazil, India, South Africa and China, large economies that are significantly dependent on coal has for several years voiced common concerns and reiterated their right to use fossil fuels during their transition to clean energy. BASIC countries call for a united solidarity response by developing countries to any unfair shifting of responsibilities from developed to developing countries. Defence, National Security and Terrorism Chiefs of Indian, French Air Forces join ongoing Garuda-VII air exercise The 7th edition of the Bilateral Exercise Garuda VII-2022 is being held between Indian Air Force (IAF), and French Air and Space Force (FASF) at Air Force Station, Jodhpur, Rajasthan from October 26 – November 12, 2022,  In this exercise, FASF will participate with four Rafale fighter aircraft, one A-330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft and a contingent of 220 personnel. The IAF is participating with Su-30 MKI, Rafale, Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas and Jaguar fighter aircraft, as well as the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and Mi-17 helicopters. It is the 4th edition of exercise hosted by India viz. 2003 (1st), 2006 (3rd) and 2014 (5th) at Air Force stations Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh), Kalaikunda (West Bengal) and Jodhpur, respectively. In France, the second, fourth, and sixth editions took place in 2005, 2010, and 2019. Note  Japan hosts the Malabar multilateral naval exercise involving India, Australia, Japan and the U.S. began on November 8, 2022 as the International Fleet Review and the 18th Western Naval Pacific Symposium, also hosted by Japan, concluded with 13 and 27 countries attending, respectively.
