Key outcomes of G7 Summit ▪ G7 Apulia Food Systems Initiative (AFSI): It aims to intensify efforts to overcome structural barriers to food security and nutrition. ▪ Partnership for Global Infrastructure Investment (PGII): It is a joint initiative to help fund infrastructure projects in developing countries. ▪ India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) : Among Saudi Arabia, India, the United States and Europe. About G7 ▪ First Summit – 1975 ▪ Members - Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America. The European Union also participates in the Summit ▪ Objective - Platform for economic and financial cooperation in response to the 1973 energy crisis. Awards and Honour Sahitya Akademi Awards ▪ The Sahitya Akademi recently announced the winners of Yuva Puraskar and Bal Sahitya Puraskar for 2024 ▪ Lokesh Raghuraman won the Yuva Puraskar for his book Vishnu Vandhar which is a collection of Short stories. ▪ Yuma Vasuki won the Bal Sahitya Puraskar for his book Thanviyin Piranthanal (Stories). Important Days National Mathematics Day (NMD) The day is annually celebrated on December 22 to mark the birth anniversary of renowned Indian Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan The day is marked to recognise and celebrate the works of Srinivasa Ramanujan and highlight the importance of Mathematics. 22nd December 2022 marks the 135th birth anniversary of Srinivasa Ramanujan. It was on February 26, 2012, the government announced that December 22 will be observed as NMD The year 2012 was declared as National Mathematics Year. About Srinivasa Ramanujan Born - 22nd December 1887 in Erode. He studied mathematics at Cambridge University and was chosen as a fellow at the prestigious Royal Society of London, United Kingdom (UK) in 1918. Second Indian to receive Royal Society Fellowship after Ardaseer Cursetjee in 1841. First Indian to be elected as a Fellow of Trinity College. His biography “The Man Who Knew Infinity: A Life of the Genius Ramanujan” was authored by Robert Kanigel and published in 1991. The biopic “The Man Who Knew Infinity” (2015) is based on his life. He passed away on April 26, 1920 in Madras at the age of 32. National Farmers’ Day, or Kisan Diwas The day is celebrated on 23 December every year to celebrate the life and achievements of the farmers and to highlight their efforts and importance to the country. The day also marks the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh. He was the fifth Prime Minister of India (July 28, 1979 to January 14, 1980) and is known for his contributions to empowering Indian farmers.
