Tamil Nadu’s Real GSDP Growth (2024–25)
▪ Growth Rate: 11.19% in real terms — highest among States.
▪ First double-digit real growth in 14 years (last was 13.12% in 2010–11).
▪ Exceeds Tamil Nadu Budget forecast of 9% real growth by 2.2 percentage points.
▪ Based on revised estimates from the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (as of August 1, 2025).
▪ Tamil Nadu is the only State to achieve double-digit real growth in 2024–25.
▪ Uttar Pradesh – 8.99%; Andhra Pradesh – 8.21%; Telangana – 8.08%; Karnataka – 7.37%; and
Maharashtra – 7.27%.
▪ Real GSDP for 2024–25: ₹17,32,189 crore (base year: 2011–12).
▪ Growth in previous years:
✓ 2023–24: Revised upward from 8.23% to 9.26%.
✓ 2022–23: Revised downward from 8.13% to 6.17%.
▪ Strong growth driven by: Tertiary sector (services) and Secondary sector (industry/manufacturing)
Per Capita Income (2024–25)
▪ Tamil Nadu: ₹3,61,619
✓ Rank: 3rd among major States.
✓ Behind Telangana (₹3,87,623) and Karnataka (₹3,80,906).
Future Outlook
▪ Achieving $1 trillion economy target by 2031–32.
▪ Improvement in fiscal health (lower deficits, improved debt-GSDP ratio).
▪ Potential 12% growth in 2025–26 if all sectors perform slightly better.
State records 1,303 Nilgiri Tahrs in second annual synchronised population survey
▪ The survey was a collaborative effort with the Kerala Forest Department and was conducted in April.
▪ It covered 177 blocks in Tamil Nadu (36 more than in 2024).
▪ Primary Strongholds:
✓ Grass Hills National Park: Recorded 334 Tahrs, an increase from 276 in 2024.
✓ Mukurthi National Park: Recorded 282 Tahrs, up from 203 last year
▪ Transit Population: An estimated 155 Nilgiri Tahrs were observed as a transit population, moving towards Kerala’s Eravikulam National Park.

Third phase of Maaperum Tamil Kanavu
▪ According to Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu , The third phase of the initiative began on August 6.
About Maaperum Tamil Kanavu Initiative
▪ It is a flagship cultural and educational initiative launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
▪ Aim: To make the younger generation aware of ancient Tamils, their culture and literature, need for
an egalitarian society and the employment opportunities available to them, among others.
▪ Phase 1: Launched in 2023 – covered select institutions and laid the foundation. Initially held in three
cities: Chennai, Coimbatore, and Madurai.
▪ Phase 2: Expanded in 2024 – reached more colleges with deeper engagement.
▪ Phase 3 (Aug 2025): Aims to benefit over 2 lakh students across 200 colleges.
