Six-Point Scheme for Sanitation Workers in Tamil Nadu
▪ This scheme will be initially implemented in the Chennai Corporation and gradually extended to other urban local bodies.
Features:
▪ Medical Assistance: Early detection and treatment of occupational diseases like lung and skin
ailments.
▪ Insurance & Death Benefit: Rs. 5 lakh insurance; families receive Rs. 10 lakh in case of death during service.
▪ Self-Employment Support: 35% grant (up to Rs. 3.5 lakh) for business; 6% interest subsidy on timely loan repayment; Rs. 10 crore allocated annually.
▪ Educational Assistance: Financial help for tuition, hostel, and books for workers’ children.
▪ Housing: 30,000 urban units in 3 years; rural workers prioritized under “Kalaignar Kanavu Illam.”
▪ Breakfast: Free breakfast for sanitation workers in local bodies.
Vetri Schools Scheme
▪ In Tamil Nadu, the scheme will be implemented in 236 blocks with an allocation of Rs. 111 crore in the current academic year.
▪ Government Model Schools were launched in 2021-22, and currently, 38 district-level schools are functioning.
▪ The scheme ensures government school students get opportunities to enter premier institutions.
▪ Best practices from district model schools will be scaled to block level.
▪ 500 Vetri Schools will be created across 414 blocks.
▪ One government higher secondary school in each block will be upgraded with modern facilities like smart classrooms.
Special Features:
▪ Weekly classes by higher education mentors, preparation materials for entrance into premier
institutions, video lessons, and direct teacher training will be provided.
▪ Students in Plus 2 from all government higher secondary schools in the block can attend these sessions.
▪ Around 50,000 students are expected to benefit, increasing representation in premier institutions.
New Welfare Scheme for Government Employees
▪ In case of accidental death or disability at work, insurance cover of Rs. 1 crore, Rs. 10 lakh financial assistance for families with two daughters, and up to Rs. 10 lakh as higher education incentive will be provided.
Independence Day Announcements by Tamil Nadu CM – 9 New Initiatives
▪ The monthly pension provided to the freedom fighters by the state government will be increased from Rs. 21 thousand to Rs. 22 thousand.
▪ The family pension provided to the families of the freedom fighters will be increased from Rs. 11,500 to Rs. 12 thousand.
▪ The monthly special pension for the descendants of Veera Pandiya Kattabomman, Ramanathapuram King Muthuramalinga Vijayaragunatha Sethupathi, Sivagangai Marudhu Brothers, and V.
Uchidambaranar will be increased to Rs. 11 thousand.
▪ The lifetime monthly financial assistance provided to the ex-servicemen from Tamil Nadu who participated in the Second World War will be increased to Rs. 15 thousand.
▪ The lifetime monthly financial assistance provided to the spouses of the soldiers who participated in the Second World War and died will be increased to Rs. 8 thousand.
▪ A hostel with infrastructure facilities will be built at Madhavaram, Chennai for the convenience of exservicemen from Tamil Nadu at a cost of Rs. 22 crore.
▪ The free Vaidya Jatra scheme implemented in the hilly areas of Tamil Nadu will be extended to the differently-abled.
▪ One training center will be started at the state level, two at the zonal level and one training school per district for driving training.
▪ While the children of workers registered with the Construction Workers Welfare Board are studying in college, online skill development training will be provided to improve their skills and get employment.
▪ Free transportation for differently-abled in hilly buses Travel Plan: The Chief Minister announced that a free morning travel plan for the differently-abled will be implemented in hilly buses.
