companies Information on the Increase in the Elephant Population
▪ The number of elephants in Tamil Nadu’s forest areas has increased.
▪ The State Forest Minister announced this information during the Wildlife Week celebration event.
▪ At present, there are 3,170 elephants in Tamil Nadu’s forest regions.
▪ Project Elephant was initiated in 1992 as a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change of the Government of India. The project was initiated to protect the Indian elephant and its habitats and to establish dedicated elephant reserves for sustaining elephant populations.
▪ This is 107 more elephants compared to the previous year.
Wildlife Week Celebration:
▪ The first Wildlife Week in India was launched in 1952.
▪ This event is celebrated every year from October 2 to 8 across India.
▪ Its objective is to create awareness among the public about the need to protect wildlife and their natural habitats.
Chennai One – Mobile Application
▪ This is the first app in the country designed to integrate all public transport systems in one
platform.
▪ It has been developed by the Chennai Metropolitan Transport Authority (CMTA) to promote the use of public transport in Chennai.
▪ The app was launched on September 22 by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
▪ Using this app, commuters can travel seamlessly by city buses, metro trains, and suburban
trains.
▪ The app is available in four languages — English, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada.
Tamil Nadu Government – Government Order Issued
▪ The Tamil Nadu Government has issued an order stating that people visiting hospitals should no longer be called “patients” but instead referred to as “medical beneficiaries.”
▪ The Chief Minister announced this during the launch of the “Nalam Kaakkum Stalin” scheme.
Nalam Kaakkum Stalin Scheme
▪ Launched on August 2, 2025.
▪ It is an initiative to provide free specialized medical check-ups and primary treatments to the
public at locations near their residences.
The Longest Bridge in South India
▪ It has been constructed in Avinashi area of Coimbatore district.
▪ The bridge has been named after G.T. Naidu.
▪ A new technology called “Sinus Plate” has been used in this bridge.
▪ Its width is 17.25 meters and its length is 10.10 kilometers.
Animal Exchange Programme
▪ This is a scheme that allows the exchange of animals between zoos at the State, National, and
International levels with due permission
Tamil Nadu Government’s “Vettri Nichayam” Scheme
▪ The Tamil Nadu Skill Development Corporation (TNSDC) has launched this scheme.
▪ Through this initiative, a new programme called GenRise will be introduced.
▪ Implemented in collaboration with Generation India Foundation, the scheme aims to enhance the skills of 35,000 young women and men and empower them by March 2028.
