New technology to produce seafood products
▪ The Tamil Nadu Government’s Guidance Bureau, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) jointly held discussions with countries such as Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway on industrial and trade opportunities.
▪ The conference was held in Chennai.
▪ Efforts are being made to introduce a project in Tamil Nadu to set up fish farms in the sea itself and produce seafood products using modern technology.
Revenue Department Day – July 1
▪ The Tamil Nadu government has announced that July 1, which marks the beginning of the harvest season, will be celebrated as Revenue Department Day.
▪ The government issued this announcement in recognition of the excellent work and service of the Revenue Department.
Order issued to remove caste-based names from Tamil Nadu streets and roads
▪ The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department of the Tamil Nadu government has issued an order to remove caste-based names from streets and roads.
▪ The department has released guidelines for removing or renaming residential areas, streets, roads,
water bodies, and other public infrastructure that bear caste names.
▪ As an alternative to caste-based names, the Tamil Nadu government has suggested new names for ponds, water bodies, streets, and roads.
▪ Ponds and water bodies: The suggested names include Roja (Rose), Malli (Jasmine), Sembaruthi
(Hibiscus), Sooriyakandhi (Sunflower), Saamanthi (Chrysanthemum), Thaazhampoo (Screw pine flower), Kandhal (Glory lily), Kanakambaram (Crossandra), Konrai (Cassia), Maghizhamboo (Mimusops elengi), Mullai (Jasmine), Senbagam (Michelia champaca), Kuvalai (Water lily), Kurinji, and Sevvanthi (Chrysanthemum).
▪ Streets and roads: The suggested names include Thiruvalluvar, Avvaiyar, Kapilar, Seethalai
Saathanaar, Nakkeerar, Pisirandhaiyaar, Kambar, Agathiyar, Veeramamunivar, Bharathiyar,
Bharathidasan, Mahatma Gandhi, Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna, Kamarajar, and Kalaignar.

Tamil Nadu’s Fourth Biodiversity Heritage Site
▪ The Nagamalai Hill in Erode district has been declared as Tamil Nadu’s fourth Biodiversity Heritage Site by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
▪ This announcement was made by the State Department of Environment, Climate Change and Forests.
▪ Tamil Nadu has 20 Ramsar sites, the highest number in India.
▪ Biodiversity Heritage Sites are designated areas aimed at protecting rare, endangered, and threatened species, and promoting their conservation and breeding.
▪ Last year, Arittapatti in Madurai district was declared a Biodiversity Heritage Site, followed by
Kaasampatti in Dindigul district and Elathur Lake in Erode district this year.
Nagamalai Hill
▪ The hill covers an area of 32.22.50 hectares.
▪ It serves as an important habitat for migratory and local birds, aquatic species, and wetland
ecosystems.
▪ The hill is home to 138 plant species, 118 bird species, 7 mammals, 11 reptiles, 5 spiders, and 71 insect species.
▪ Rare bird species such as the Spotted Eagle, Pale Harrier, and Pennell’s Eagle are also found here.
▪ The area also contains Iron Age stone circles, rock shelters, and ancient artefacts discovered by archaeologists.
▪ Additionally, a 400-year-old stone-carved idol of Anjaneyar Swamy (Lord Hanuman), registered by the Department of Archaeology, has been found in this region.
Mudhalvar Marundhagam Scheme
▪ This scheme was launched on 24-02-2024 by the Tamil Nadu Health Department.
▪ A total of 1,000 pharmacies are to be established across Tamil Nadu under this scheme.
▪ Under this scheme, medicines are sold at 25% less than the purchase price and up to 75% lower than the prices available in private pharmacies.
Seven-member High-Level Committee to Resolve Issues Related to Ryotwari Patta Lands
▪ Ryotwari land refers to lands directly granted by the government to individuals, particularly in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka.
▪ To address issues related to Ryotwari Patta lands, the Tamil Nadu Government has constituted a seven-member high-level committee.
▪ The Chief Secretary will serve as the Chairperson of this committee.
