Namakku Naame Thittam
- The Greater Chennai Corporation, under the Namakku Naame Thittam scheme, is launching 20 smart classroom projects in North Chennai schools.
About Namakku Naame Thittam
- Launched by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu during the 1997–98 Budget Speech.
- A participatory, demand-driven scheme promoting self-help and self-reliance among communities.
- Involves the community directly in the developmental process from planning, resource mobilization, execution, to maintenance.
- State Government provides financial and technical support.
- The public themselves can select works they need and execute them according to the scheme’s guidelines.
Evolution of the Scheme:
- 1997–2001: Operated as Namakku Naame Thittam.
- 2001–2002: Renamed as Village Self Sufficiency Scheme.
- 2002–2006: Continued as Self Sufficiency Scheme.
- Revived in 2007–08 under the original name Namakku Naame Thittam.
Funding Pattern:
- One-third (1/3) of cost – Public contribution.
- Two-thirds (2/3) – Government grant.
- Applicable to both rural and urban areas.
