Tamil Nadu’s Expert Committee for Elephant Translocation SOP
- The Tamil Nadu government has formed a high-level expert committee.
- Objective: To develop a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the capture, translocation, release, and post-release monitoring of wild elephants and other wildlife species.
- Chairperson of the committee: Udhayan, PCCF & Director, AIWC.
- The recent elephant deaths (still under investigation) triggered a reassessment of current translocation protocols.
- The committee has been given a two-month deadline to submit its report and the draft SOP.
