Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) 2.0

  • Context: Chief Minister is set to launch the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) 2.0 and the Digital Fingerprint Collection System (DFCS).
  • These projects are of strategic importance and align with the digital governance and police modernisation initiatives. 
  • These projects will be formally launched at all the police station/First Information Report registering units across the State on that day.
  • The application has been developed to enhance the operational efficiency of the police in crime detection, investigation, supervision, and data-driven policing by leveraging emerging technologies.
  • The DFCS enables digital collection, validation, and storage of fingerprint records.

 

Polity

State Information Commission

    • Context: Two more Information Commissioners have been appointed in the Tamil Nadu State Information Commission.
    • The new Information Commissioners are: Retired Indian Administrative Service Officer Atulya Mishra and Retired Indian Police Service Officer Abhay Kumar Singh
    • They will hold office for a period of three years from the date of their assumption of office.
  • Retired Indian Police Service Officer Shakeel Akhter is serving as the State Principal Information Commissioner.

State Information Commission

    • It is a statutory body established under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005.
    • The State Information Commission is headed by a State Chief Information Commissioner, and there are a maximum of 10 State Information Commissioners.
    • Should not be a member of Parliament or a State Legislative Assembly.
  • Tenure: They shall hold office for three years or till the age of 65, whichever comes first.
  • Appointment: They are appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Committee
  • The Chief Minister as Chairman
  • The Leader of the Opposition in the State Legislative Assembly
  • A State Cabinet Minister nominated by the Chief Minister.
  • Removal: The Governor may remove the State Chief Information Commissioner or the State Information Commissioner from office under certain conditions. They are:
  • If declared bankrupt
  • If convicted of a crime of moral turpitude
  • If engaged in paid work outside official duties
  • If physically or mentally unfit
  • If receiving financial or other benefits that would affect the position
