Heat Action Plan (HAP) 2026 – Tamil Nadu
- Context: The Government of Tamil Nadu has introduced the State Heat Action Plan (2026) to reduce heat-related illnesses and improve preparedness for heatwaves.
Objective
- To strengthen early warning systems, planning, and response mechanisms for heatwaves
- To ensure better coordination across different sectors during extreme heat conditions
Risk Assessment Method
- Uses the Steadman Heat Index, which combines temperature and humidity
- Helps measure how hot it actually feels to humans (heat stress level)

- Covers hazard, exposure, and vulnerability analysis
- Assessments are done at village panchayat and urban ward levels
