PHCs in Tamil Nadu being ranked

- Primary Health Centres (PHCs) in Tamil Nadu are now being ranked based on 20 key indicators to assess their performance and track their progress over a period of time.
- Tamil Nadu has a total of 2,127 PHCs.
- It has been done for the first time by the Directorate of Public Health (DPH) and Preventive Medicine.
- The ranking include the subcategories of upgraded PHCs, additional PHCs, urban PHCs and those located in hilly areas.
- The exercise will be done on a monthly basis.
- The indicators enlisted for the ranking criteria include
- Average outpatients/day/medical officer in position
- Inpatient/month for the institution
- Deliveries conducted per month
- Sterilisation performed/month/functional operation theatres
- Average laboratory
About Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine
- Responsible for the implementation of various National and State Health Programmes.
- Objective – Prevention and control of waterborne diseases like Acute Diarrheal Diseases, Typhoid, Dysentry prevention and control of sexually transmitted diseases including HIV / AIDS.
