17 Village Green Forests
- The Tamil Nadu government decided in 2022 to establish 100 Emerald Groves (village forests).
- 75 groves have been established in 29 districts.
- Permission has been granted to establish 17 new groves in 5 districts at a cost of Rs. 4.25 crores.
- Each grove is created on one hectare of land.
- They include protective fencing, walking paths, wells, and other facilities.
- Native trees such as jamun, gooseberry, tamarind, guava, etc. have been planted.
