Nutrition Farming Mission
▪ Tamil Nadu government’s nutrition farming mission was launched in Trichy and the delta districts on July 4, 2025.
▪ Farmers would receive farm inputs such as pulse seeds, vegetable seeds and fruit plants from
the agriculture and horticulture departments as part of the mission to cultivate nutritious crops.
▪ Objective of the Mission: To encourage the cultivation and production of nutritious pulses,
vegetables and fruits and also boost the income of farmers in the state.
▪ The government is encouraging the farmers to utilize the nutrition farming initiative as a form of alternative farming to crops such as paddy, cotton, groundnut and sugarcane.
▪ Under the mission, the agriculture department is distributing five varieties of pulse seeds, while the horticulture department is providing five varieties of vegetable seeds and six varieties of fruit seedings.
▪ In Trichy district, 2,000 farmers would receive pulse seeds, while 54,500 would receive
vegetable seeds, and 32,900 would receive fruit seedlings in a total of 14 blocks under a onehundred percent subsidy.
▪ The departments have fixed annual targets for the distribution of farm inputs.
Mangrove Forests in Tamil Nadu
▪ “Through the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, Tamil Nadu has planted 16 lakh mangrove plants in just the past 3 years and restored 707 hectares of mangrove area.
▪ Tamil Nadu has achieved a record by creating new mangrove forests covering 1,350 hectares
in Tiruvarur district alone.
About Tamil Nadu Mission
▪ Tamil Nadu launched the Green Tamil Nadu Mission in September 2022, aiming to increase the state’s green cover from 23.7% to 33% over the next ten years.
▪ Tamil Nadu Chief Minister launched the mission at Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur.
