T.N. government sanctions ₹110 crore to strengthen cancer diagnosis, treatment
▪ ₹110.96 crore sanctioned over three years (2025–2028) to strengthen cancer diagnosis and
treatment.
▪ The initiative will benefit 17 government institutions — 5 regional cancer hospitals and 12 tertiary care centres across Tamil Nadu.
▪ To improve early cancer detection and treatment capacity by upgrading medical equipment and increasing healthcare manpower.
▪ Rising cancer cases in Tamil Nadu are straining the public healthcare system, prompting this
focused response.
▪ The five regional centres are the Institute of Non-Communicable Diseases, the Government
Royapettah Hospital, and the government medical college hospitals in Coimbatore, Thanjavur, and Tirunelveli, and the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai.
Excavations at Porpanaikottai
▪ The State Archaeology Department has completed the second season of excavations at
Porpanaikottai, a Sangam-era site in Pudukottai district.
▪ The excavations had commenced on June 18, 2024.
▪ A total of 17 trenches were dug, and 1,982 antiquities were recovered.
▪ The artefacts included glass beads, hopscotch, glass bangles, carnelian beads, amethyst, agate,
bone point tool, copper nails, ivory dice, terracotta wheels, grinding and rubbing stones, terracotta beads, and iron and copper objects.
▪ A torpedo jar and russet-coated ware were also found.
▪ Pieces of a gold ornament, an iron sword found broken into two pieces and a raw material of
agate stone were also found
