TN State Policy for Homeless Persons with Mental Illness
- Tamil Nadu is formulating a policy to streamline the processes involved in the rescue and rehabilitation of homeless persons with mental illness.
- The policy facilitates their reunion with family and reintegration into society.
- The policy will put in place structured services for the wandering mentally-ill.
- It defines the roles and responsibilities of the various stakeholders.
New India Literary Programme (Puthiya Bharatha Ezhutharivu Thittam 2022-27)
- The School Education Department has identified over six lakh illiterate people, aged over 15, across Tamil Nadu and has begun classes to provide them with basic literacy this year under New India Literary Programme.
- The top five districts with the highest enrolment ratio in the literacy programme
- Krishnagiri – 61,622
- Salem – 50,671
- Tiruvannamalai – 37,971
- Madurai – 28,472
- It is expected to benefit over 30 lakh people across the State.
About New India Literary Programme
- Launch – 2022-23 to 2026-27
- Aim – To cover a target of 5.00 crore non-literates in the age group of 15 years and above.
- Five objectives:
- Foundational Literacy and Numeracy
- Critical Life Skills
- Vocational Skills Development
- Basic Education
