Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015
- Chandru to head one man panel to assess requirements of juvenile homes.
- The Tamil Nadu government has constituted a one man committee, headed by retired Madras High Court judge K. Chandru, to recommend measures for the effective administration of homes functioning as per the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015.
About Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act of 2015:
- Replaced the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
- Aim: To Comprehensively address children in conflict with law and children in need of care and protection.
- It mandates setting up Juvenile Justice Boards and Child Welfare Committees in every district.
Best Transgender Award
- Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin gave the Best Transgender Award for 2023 to P Aishwarya of Vellore in recognition of her contribution to her community over the past two decades.
- Every year April 15 is celebrated as the Transgenders day in Tamil Nadu since 2021.
- The Best Transgender Award is conferred by the Government of Tamil Nadu since 2021
- A cheque of Rs.1 lakh and a certificate of appreciation are also awarded to the transgender selected for the award.
‘carbon neutral hubs’,
- Tamil Nadu government has selected Rajapalayam in Virudhunagar district and the pilgrimage town of Rameswaram to be made ‘carbon neutral hubs’.
‘BioCNG plants’
- To achieve carbon neutrality, establishing bioCNG plants for wet waste processing, promoting a low emission lifestyle through land use planning, removal of accumulated waste through bio mining, and increasing low emission transport systems.
‘Increase carbon sink’
- Focus will also be on increasing the carbon sink through afforestation and establishing material recovery facilities to reduce ocean bound plastic.
‘ Asia’s largest market’
- As a pilot project, the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has initiated work to make Chennai’s Koyambedu market, one of Asia’s largest market complexes, carbon neutral at a cost of ₹25 crore.
- The project will involve strict implementation of the single use plastic ban
