6 districts declared agro drought affected
- The State government declared six districts as moderate agriculture drought affected districts.
- Areas where crop damage is more than 33 per cent due to insufficient rainfall during the entire season of North East Monsoon 2022 from October 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022, have been declared as moderate agriculture drought affected.
- According to Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue and Disaster Management) Kumar Jayant, 25 blocks of Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivaganga, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi and Virudhunagar districts have been declared as moderate agriculture drought affected blocks.
Chennai water board signs pact with WATCO
- Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (CMWSSB) signed a memorandum of understanding with the Water Corporation of Odisha (WATCO) to implement the round-the-clock drinking water supply project in two zones of the city on a pilot basis.
- WATCO, which has implemented a similar project in Puri, will be the nodal agency and prepare a detailed project report and also prepare the bid documents.
- Under the project, the capacity of the water distribution infrastructure, including the overhead tanks and storage sumps, would be increased.
