Prosopsis Juliflora
▪ The Tamil Nadu government has informed the Madras High Court that 517 villages spread across 32 districts have become free of seemai karuvelam (Prosopis Juliflora), an exotic and invasive plant species considered harmful to the ecology and maintenance of the groundwater table.
Disadvantages
▪ This tree absorbs more than four litres of water to obtain one kilogram of biomass.
▪ It cannot even shelter birds as it produces less oxygen and more carbon dioxide.
▪ It can also turn the groundwater poisonous.
▪ It causes land erosion due to the loss of the grasslands that are habitats for native plants and
animals.
TNMRF
▪ Tamil Nadu government recently launched the Tamil Nadu Marine Resources Foundation
(TNMRF)
▪ Aim – To protect and restore marine biodiversity by safeguarding endangered species,
rehabilitating ecosystems such as coral reefs, mangroves, and seagrass, and expanding the
protected areas.
MERRC
▪ TN Government recently launched the Manali Ennore Restoration and Rejuvenation Council
(MERRC).
▪ It is a special purpose vehicle.
▪ Aim – To restore the environmentally sensitive Manali-Ennore region which was established after a major oilspill in December 2023.
Cyber fraud complaints in TN
▪ So far, 1,09,608 cyber fraud complaints have been received in Tamil Nadu in 2025 through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
▪ In 2024, there were 1,27,041 complaints registered on the NCRP portal. Over 13,287 investment scams and 4,439 digital arrest scams were reported.

▪ Tamil Academy is a non-governmental body of scholars.
