- The Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change & Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekarinformed that the government has set an ambitious target to achieve sales of around 70 lakh hybrid & electric vehicles by the end of 2020.

- In 2015 as part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP)2020, Department of Heavy Industry formulated the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India)
- It is to promote the manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicle technology & to ensure sustainable growth of the same.
- The 1stPhase of FAME India Scheme was implemented by 4 focus areas namely- Demand Creation, Technology Platform, Pilot Project & Charging Infrastructure.
- The 2ndPhase is the expansion of 1st phase & aims to generate demand by way of supporting about 7,000 Electronic (E)-buses, 5 lakh E- 3 wheelers, 55,000 E-4 wheelers passenger cars & 10 lakh E-2 wheelers.
