The Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change & Minister of Information & Broadcasting Prakash Javadekarinformed that the government has set an ambitious target to achieve sales of around 70 lakh hybrid & electric vehicles by the end of 2020. Key points: In 2015 as part of the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP)2020, Department of Heavy Industry formulated the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles in India (FAME India) It is to promote the manufacturing of electric and hybrid vehicle technology & to ensure sustainable growth of the same. The 1stPhase of FAME India Scheme was implemented by 4 focus areas namely- Demand Creation, Technology Platform, Pilot Project & Charging Infrastructure. The 2ndPhase is the expansion of 1st phase & aims to generate demand by way of supporting about 7,000 Electronic (E)-buses, 5 lakh E- 3 wheelers, 55,000 E-4 wheelers passenger cars & 10 lakh E-2 wheelers.
