Global Hunger Index 2023

    • The Global Hunger Index 2023 was released by Irish NGO Concern Worldwide and German NGO Welt Hunger Hilfe.
    • India ranks 111 out of a total of 125 countries.
    • India’s ranking is based on a Global Hunger Index score of 28.7 on a 100 point scale where 0 is the best score (no hunger) and 100 is the worst.
    • This categorises India’s severity of hunger as “serious”
  • Key scores:
  • Child wasting – 18.7 per cent
  • Rate of undernourishment – 16.6 per cent
  • Under-five mortality – 3.1 per cent.
  • Prevalence of anaemia in women aged between 15 and 24 years – 58.1 per cent.
