Tamil Nadu’s electorate stands at 6.12 crore

  • The Tamil Nadu electorate stood at 6.12 crore, including 3.11 crore women, 3.01 crore men and more than 7,900 of the third gender.
  • Figures were released by the State Election Commission.
  • The Shozhinganallur Assembly constituency in Chengalpattu district continues to have the highest number of electors in the State, at 6,51,077. 
  • The Harbour constituency in Chennai continues to have the lowest number of electors, at 1,69,292.
  • The Election Commission’s announcement that the youth could file advance applications with reference to three subsequent qualifying dates – April 1, July 1 and October 1 – and January 1, the roll would be updated every quarter.
  • The Chief Electoral Officer said.

  • The Election Commission of India (ECI) is a constitutional body. 
  • Article 324 – power of superintendence, direction, and control of elections to parliament, state legislatures, the office of the president of India, and the office of vice-president of India. 
  • The commission was established in 1950 and originally had one Chief Election Commissioner.
  • Two additional Commissioners were appointed to the commission for the first time in 1989.
  • “The Election Commissioner Amendment Act, 1989” was adopted on 1 January 1990 which turned the commission into a multi-member body.

Children honoured to mark World Thalassemia Month

  • To commemorate the World Thalassemia Month, Apollo Cancer Care Centre celebrated and honoured several young Thalassemia warriors who received treatment under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme (CMCHIS), children who require a bone marrow transplant for the treatment of Thalassemia”.

FEATURES OF THE SCHEME 

  • Chief Minister Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme launched in 2009 as Kalaingar Kaappittu Thittam.
  • Around 1.37 Crore family covered under CMCHIS (January 2022). Totally 1090 procedures and 52 diagnostic procedures are covered under CMCHIS in 800 Government 900 Private empanelled hospitals.
  • The scheme seeks to provide cashless hospitalization coverage upto Rs.5,00,000/- per family, per year.
