Govt – Welfare oriented Govt schemes, their utility 2 key initiatives to upgrade Urban Rejuvenation The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs launches 2 key initiatives - ‘City Finance Rankings, 2022’ and ‘City Beauty Competition’ to upgrade India’s Urban Rejuvenation journey to next level. City Finance Rankings  Launched to evaluate, recognize and reward ULBs on the basis of their strength across key financial parameters. The rankings aim to motivate city/state officials and decision makers to implement municipal finance reforms.  The participating ULBs will be evaluated on 15 indicators across three key municipal finance assessment parameters, namely:  Resource Mobilization Expenditure Performance  Fiscal Governance. City Beauty Competition  Aims to encourage and recognize the transformational efforts made by cities and wards in India to create beautiful, innovative and inclusive public spaces. Wards and public places of cities would be judged against the five broad pillars  accessibility  amenities  activities  aesthetics and  ecology. Public Awareness & General Administration Lokayukta Bill passed by Maharashtra Assembly Maharashtra became the first state to pass a Lokayukta Bill that brings the Chief Minister of the state and the council of ministers under the ambit of the anti-corruption watchdog. Key Highlights  Under the new bill, the Lokayukta will have the power to recommend action based on its investigation and also be able to direct the state agencies to conduct further investigations.  It will have all the powers of a civil court i.e. the power to summon government officials. The Lokayukta can initiate the investigation against the Chief Minister with the prior approval of the Assembly. History  The Lokayukta is the apex anti-corruption ombudsman that holds the power to investigate complaints and corruption allegations against government officials and lawmakers.  Maharashtra is known as the first state to establish Lokayukta in 1971.
