V.Sindhu was voted as the BBC Indian Sportswoman of the year. She gained more popular votes than boxer Mary Kom, para-shuttler Manasi Joshi, sprinter Dutee Chand and wrestles Vinesh Phogat. Legendary athlete P.T.Usha was bestowed the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Shutter P. V. Sindhu and boxer Mary Kom are among the five nominees for the inaugural BBC Indian Sportswoman of the Year award to be presented. The other three are, Vinesh Phogat (wrestling), Dutee Chand (athletics) and Manasi Joshi (para-badminton).
