Nine products from across country get GI tag The Union government has granted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag to 9 products from across the country. Of the 9 GI tags given, five were for products from Kerala Assamese Gamocha-Assam Alibag White Onion-Maharashtra Tandur Redgram-Telangana Raktsey Karpo Apricot-Ladakh Attappady Thuvara (Attappady red gram)-Kerala Kanthalloor Vattavada Garlic(Kanthalloor Vattavada Veluthulli)-Kerala Kodungallur Snap Melon(Kodungallur Pottuvellari)-Kerala Attappady Aattukombu Dolichos Bean[Attappady Aattukombu Avara]-Kerala Onattukara Sesame(Onattukara Ellu)-Kerala With this, the total number of registered GI products in India stands at 432. The top five states with the most GI tags are Karnataka  48 Tamil Nadu 42 Kerala 35 Uttar Pradesh 34 Maharashtra 31   Note A GI is a label that is applied to products that have a specific geographical origin and have characteristics that are related to that particular location.
