India has the highest number of tuberculosis cases in the world. India alone accounts for 28 per cent of the global TB cases. Globally, about 1.6 million people die every year due to tuberculosis. India is also the leading cause of tuberculosis deaths. The World Health Organization (WHO) has set a target of eradicating tuberculosis internationally by 2030.
