Indian Navy develops air evacuation pod for COVID-19 patients

Indian Navy’s Southern Command, Kochi has developed anair evacuation pod (AEP) to airlift COVID-19 infected patients safely from remote areas such as islands and ships in a fully sealed patient transfer capsule. Key Points: The evacuation pod was designed under guidance of Principal Medical officer of the naval air station, INS (Indian Naval Ship) Garuda, Kochi, in consultation with specialists from the naval hospital INHS (Indian Naval Hospital Ship) Sanjivani and HeadQuarters of Southern Naval Command. About AEP:The pod is made up of aluminium, nitrile rubber and perspex. It weighs only 32 kg and has incurred a manufacturing cost of Rs 50,000 which is only 0.1 percent of cost of an imported equivalent (Rs 59 lakh).

Indian Navy to offer Permanent Commission to women officers

The Supreme Court recently ruled that the women officers will now get permanent commission in the Indian Navy. Justice DY Chandrachud, while giving out the ruling, directed the Central Government to grant permanent commission to already serving women officers with increments within a time frame of three months.

Navy launches Op Vanila to help Madagascar

The Navy launched 'Operation Vanilla' in support of the national disaster in flood-hit Madagascar and diverted a large amphibious ship to provide assistance. INS Airavat, which was mission deployed has been diverted for the same, the Indian Navy said in a statement. Madagascar has been hit by a cyclone and there has been heavy flooding and landslips since last week causing loss of lives and displacement of a number of people. According to reports, more than 92,000 people have been affected.

This year the parade has certain events to express the woman power in the defence sector. Women Power Tania Shergil In 2020 republic day parade, Tania Shergil becomes the first woman officer to lead all men contingent. The Contingent was commissioned in March 2017 from Officer Training Academy, Chennai. Other firsts of woman power The CRPF raised the first all women battalion in Asia region in 1986. In 2018, the all women bikers team of the Border Security Force made a similar debut. In 2015, an all women marching contingents of navy, army and air force debuted the national parade.

Start Up India-first time in Republic Parade; Indian Navy

The Department of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) operating under Ministry of Commerce and Industry is to showcase tableau on Start Up India at the Republic Day Parade to be held at Rajpath, New Delhi. The tableau is to be held under the theme: Reach for the sky. This is the first time Start Up India is participating at the Parade. Indian Navy The Indian Navy is to showcase its tableau at the Republic Day parade under the theme Theme: Indian Navy-Silent, Strong and Swift.

Navy to get INS Vikrant by 2021

India's first indigenously-manufactured aircraft carrier INS Vikrant will be inducted into the Navy in 2021. The ship now under construction at Cochin Shipyard was earlier scheduled to join service this year. A model of the 40,000 ton ship will be part of the Navy tableau on Republic Day. At present, the Indian Navy has only one aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya. The INS Vikrant will be able to have 20 MIG-29K fighter jets, and ten helicopters.

1st tri-dimensional expedition ‘Maha-Navy Connect 2020’ launched by Indian Navy in Maharashtra

The first tri-dimensional expedition‘Maha-Navy Connect 2020’ was launched by Indian Navy in Mumbai. It aims to promote the heritage of Indian Navy and to spread awareness about Coastal Security amongst the coastal communities in Maharashtra. Key Points: It was flagged of by Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command ViceAdmiral Ajit Kumar P. The expedition continues till January 11, 2020. The tri-dimensional expedition consists of yachting, running and cycling teams of 50 naval personnel. On their way the teams will touch Kanhoji Angre (Khanderi), Revdanda, Korlai, Murud-Janjira, Raigad, Suvarnadurg, Jaigad, Ratnadurg, Purnagad, Vijaydurg and Devgad forts.
