11 products from Tamil Nadu got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag by the Geographical Indications Registry in Chennai. Now Tamil Nadu has the highest number of GI Tags – 56 Products. The list: Manapparai murukku Cumbum panneer thratchai (grapes) Marthandam honey Ooty varkey Manamadurai pottery Salem sago (javvarisi) Authoor vetrilai Negamam cotton sari Myladi stone carvings Thaikkal Rattan craft and Sholavandan betel vine.  About GI tag: Geographical Indication (GI) is an indication used to identify goods having special characteristics originating from a definite geographical territory. The Geographical Indications of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999 seeks to provide for the registration and better protection of geographical indications relating to goods in India. It is governed and directed by the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). The Tamil Nadu government has decided to establish high-tech labs in high and middle schools for Rs 157 crore. "To achieve the desired outcome, model school students and their parents are being provided an involved career guidance programme to develop a deeper awareness  of higher education and career opportunities based on their abilities," smart classrooms will be established in 7,500 primary schools for Rs 150 crore. model schools will be established in another 13 districts at Rs 250 crore and in future, the government would take steps to establish at least one model school in each district of the State.
