Reports and Indices NIRF: IIT-Madras retains number one spot. The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), under the Union Education Ministry, announced the India Rankings 2023 of higher education institutions. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras retained its position as the best educational institution in overall ranking for the fifth consecutive term. IIT, Madras also received the honour of best engineering college for the eighth consecutive year. Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru was rated the best university in the country for eight years in a row. IISC, Bengaluru also stood first in the research institutions category for the third consecutive year. About NIRF The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development in 2015. This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. Parameters for ranking Teaching, Learning and Resources, Research and Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.
