Sports and Games  World Aquatics Championships 2023  Katie Ledecky won her 16th gold medal at the 2023 World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan.  Ledecky won a gold medal in the 1,500 free, tying Phelps' record. She also took home silvers in the 400-meter free and the 4x200-meter free relay in Japan.  Katie Ledecky is the most decorated of female swimmer in history with six individual Olympic gold medals and 14 individual long course world titles to date.  Ledecky's victory also made her the first swimmer to win six consecutive world championships in the same event. Awards & Honours  Thagaisal Thamizhar award  Dravidar Kazhagam president K Veeramani has been chosen for the Thagaisal Thamizhar award of the Tamil Nadu government for the year 2023.  Chief Minister MK Stalin will present this award to Veeramani on August 15 during the independence day celebrations at Fort St George.  The state government instituted the Thagaisal Thamizhar award in 2021 to honour eminent personalities who contributed to the development of Tamil Nadu and Tamils. Veteran Communist leaders N. Sankaraiah and R. Nallakannu received the awards in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Lokmanya Tilak National Award  Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred with the Lokmanya Tilak National Award at an event in Maharashtra's Pune.  The award that was constituted by Tilak Smarak Mandir Trust in 1983. It honours the legacy of Lokmanya Tilak.  It is presented on August 1 every year to mark the death anniversary of Bal Gangadhar Tilak.
