New technology discovered that helps aircraft take off and land vertically
- Professor P.A. Ramakrishna, Associate Professor Joel George Manattra, and researcher Ananthupathran of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras have discovered a new technology that helps aircraft take off and land vertically (Vertical Take-off & Landing VTOL).
- Using hybrid rocket propulsion, the aircraft can be launched vertically and land smoothly.
- This does not require long runways. This technology will be of great use in rugged terrains where runways and large airports cannot be built.
- Their research paper has been published in the world-renowned space research journal (Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sciences).
