Ramakrishna, Associate Professor Joel George Manattra, and researcher Ananthupathran of the Department of Aerospace Engineering at IIT Madras have discovered a new technology that helps aircraft take off and land vertically (Vertical Take-off & Landing VTOL). Using hybrid rocket propulsion, the aircraft can be launched vertically and land smoothly. This does not require long runways. This technology will be of great use in rugged terrains where runways and large airports cannot be built. Their research paper has been published in the world-renowned space research journal (Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sciences).
