Special Medical Camp for Journalists

  • Tamil Nadu State government launched a special medical camp for journalists on Saturday.
  • The comprehensive health insurance scheme is now available for all accredited journalists, as announced by the Chief Minister in 2022. 1,414 journalists have been included on the list.
  • The monthly pension for journalists was increased from ₹10,000 to ₹12,000.
  • The assistance amount for the welfare of journalists was significantly increased from ₹3 lakh to ₹10 lakh.

TAEI Registry 2.0 App

  • TAEI Registry 2.0 was launched by the Health Minister of Tamil Nadu government.
  • The app is designed for real-time data collection for accident and emergency care in the State.
  • Developed for real-time data collection on accident and emergency care.
  • Integrates data from 113 trauma and emergency centres, ambulances, and hospitals.
  • Aims to improve pre-hospital, in-hospital, and rehabilitation services.

Chennai Metro helps move lungs for transplantation

  • For the first time, the Chennai Metro Rail was used as a “green corridor” to transport human organs.
  • Precedents in Other Cities: Hyderabad Metro(2021 &January 2025) and Bengaluru Metro (August 2025 & September 2025)

Legal Framework:

  • In 2023, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs amended the Metro Railways (Carriage and Ticket) Rules, 2014, allowing:

“Hospitals registered under the Transplantation of Human Organs and Tissues Act, 1994, to carry human organs or tissues in Metro trains for transplantation.”

Significance:

  • Marks a new milestone for Chennai Metro, showcasing urban transport’s role in saving lives.
  • Highlights the growing integration between public infrastructure and emergency medical services.

Tholkudi Scheme

  • Announced by the Tamil Nadu Finance Minister in the 2024-25 Budget.
  • Total Funding: 1,000 crores
  • Implementation period: 4 years

The main objectives of Tholkudi Scheme are:

  • To improve basic amenities in tribal areas
  • To improve the quality of life of tribal communities
  • To promote socio-economic development of tribal areas

Anbucholai Scheme

  • The ‘Anbucholai Scheme’ has been developed by the Tamil Nadu government to improve the well-being of senior citizens and to help the elderly at home to get motivated without getting discouraged.
  • The Chief Minister will launch this scheme in Trichy on 10.11.2025.
  • The Anbucholai Senior Citizens’ Recreation Centres set up under this scheme will function as community centres focusing on the healthy development of senior citizens.
  • A total of 25 Anbu Solai Centers are being started at a cost of Rs. 10 crores, including two Anbu Solai Centers each in 10 Municipal Corporations namely Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, Salem, Tiruppur, Erode, Thoothukudi, Vellore, Thanjavur and Dindigul, one center each in the industrial districts of Ranipet and Krishnagiri, and one center each in Thandaiyarpet, Sholinganallur and Virugambakkam in the Chennai Corporation.

‘Nalam Kaakum Stalin’

  • Public Welfare Department officials have said that 8.21 lakh people have benefited under the ‘Nalam Kaakum Stalin’ scheme so far.
  • The Chief Minister launched the ‘Nalam Kaakum Stalin’ scheme in all the districts of Tamil Nadu on August 2.
  • This scheme is implemented by the Public Welfare Department.
  • Examinations and special treatments are provided by medical experts under the departments of general medicine, general surgery, heart health, orthopedics, neurology, skin health, ear-nose-throat and obstetrics, physiotherapy, dentistry, mental health, child health, pulmonary medicine, and Indian medicine.
