Amur Vulture-Long-Distance Bird Species
- Context: The Amur Vulture from Manipur completed an exceptional 5,600 km non-stop journey over six days.
- The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has launched a special tracking project to monitor their long-distance migration.
- As part of the project, three vultures — Appabang, Alang, and Ahu — were tagged with radio transmitters on November 11.
About Amur Vulture
- They are small and agile birds (raptors) locally known as ‘Kahuaipuina’ in Manipur and ‘Molulem’ in Nagaland (Amur Falcon capital of the world).
- Their distinctive features include dark plumage, white wing linings, and reddish-orange eyes and feet.
