National Constitution Day of India (Samvidhan Divas)
- National Constitution Day is observed every year on 26 November to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949.
- The Indian Constitution took 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days to draft—from 9 December 1946 to 26 November 1949.
- The day emphasises the contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chairman of the Drafting Committee and principal architect of the Constitution.
History
- Officially declared Constitution Day on 19 November 2015, during Dr. Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary year.
- Before 2015, the day was observed informally as Law Day.
