National Constitution Day of India (Samvidhan Divas) National Constitution Day is observed every year on 26 November to mark the adoption of the Indian Constitution in 1949. The Indian Constitution took 2 years, 11 months, and 18 days to draft—from 9 December 1946 to 26 November 1949. The day emphasises the contributions of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the chairman of the Drafting Committee and principal architect of the Constitution. History Officially declared Constitution Day on 19 November 2015, during Dr. Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary year. Before 2015, the day was observed informally as Law Day.
