K-4 missile test

  • Background: India tested the K-4 intermediate-range ballistic missile from the INS Arihaat submarine.
  • Significance: Bringing India’s sea-based nuclear deterrence capability into operation.
  • K-4 Missile Features:
  • This is a solid-fueled K-4 ballistic missile.
  • It is capable of striking targets up to 3,500 km away.
  • It can carry a nuclear warhead payload of up to 2 tons.

INS Arihant

  • Submarine: INS Arihaat, India’s second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN).
  • Weight: 6,000 tons
  • Predecessor: INS Arihant (fully commissioned in 2018).
  • It is equipped only with K-15 missiles, which have a range of 750 km.
