K-4 missile test Background: India tested the K-4 intermediate-range ballistic missile from the INS Arihaat submarine. Significance: Bringing India's sea-based nuclear deterrence capability into operation. K-4 Missile Features: This is a solid-fueled K-4 ballistic missile. It is capable of striking targets up to 3,500 km away. It can carry a nuclear warhead payload of up to 2 tons. INS Arihant Submarine: INS Arihaat, India's second nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN). Weight: 6,000 tons Predecessor: INS Arihant (fully commissioned in 2018). It is equipped only with K-15 missiles, which have a range of 750 km.
