Shyamji Krishna Varma

  • He was born on October 4, 1857, in Mandvi.
  • He was an Indian revolutionary, lawyer, and journalist.
  • The Indian Home Rule Society was founded by Shyamji Krishna Varma in London in 1905 to promote revolutionary nationalism.
  • In July 1905, he established the ‘India House’ organization in London and launched the journal ‘The Indian Sociologist’.
  • This served as a hub for Indian nationalist activities in Britain.
  • He served as the first president of the Bombay Arya Samaj and was one of the mentors who inspired Vinayak Damodar Savarkar (Veer Savarkar).
  • During the First World War, he moved to Paris and subsequently to Geneva, where he remained until his passing on March 30, 1930.
  • A memorial named ‘Kranti Teerth’ was inaugurated in his honor in 2010.
