Sikkim’s 51st Statehood Day
- Sikkim’s 51st Statehood Day was celebrated on May 16th.
- Sikkim, which was formerly a monarchy, was integrated as a full-fledged state of India on May 16, 1975.

- The 35th Constitutional Amendment Act of 1974 granted Sikkim a unique status as an “Associate State.” This was a constitutional category utilized only once.
- The 36th Constitutional Amendment Act, enacted on May 16, 1975, officially made Sikkim the 22nd state of India.
- Article 371F was inserted to provide special constitutional guarantees safeguarding Sikkim’s cultural identity, laws, and land rights.
- In 2016, by converting over 76,000 hectares of land to chemical-free farming, Sikkim became the world’s first 100% organic farming state.
