Sikkim's 51st Statehood Day Sikkim's 51st Statehood Day was celebrated on May 16th. Sikkim, which was formerly a monarchy, was integrated as a full-fledged state of India on May 16, 1975. The 35th Constitutional Amendment Act of 1974 granted Sikkim a unique status as an "Associate State." This was a constitutional category utilized only once. The 36th Constitutional Amendment Act, enacted on May 16, 1975, officially made Sikkim the 22nd state of India. Article 371F was inserted to provide special constitutional guarantees safeguarding Sikkim's cultural identity, laws, and land rights. In 2016, by converting over 76,000 hectares of land to chemical-free farming, Sikkim became the world's first 100% organic farming state.
