- Born on 19 July 1827 near Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh.
- Joined the British East India Company Army in 1849.

- Opposed the use of animal fat-coated cartridges as they hurt soldiers’ religious beliefs.
- His protest became a major cause of the 1857 uprising.
- The revolt spread across India, with common people also opposing British policies.
