India’s First anti-submarine warfare ship
- The Indian Navy launched the INS Arnala.
- It is the first of eight indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC) at shipbuilding facility of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in Kattupalli, Chennai.
- It is built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd. (GRSE), Kolkata, West Bengal.
- The ship’s name, “Arnala” honours the strategic maritime significance that was bestowed on the island of Arnala by the Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji.
Note
- On April 2019, the Ministry of Defence and GRSE, Kolkata, signed a deal for the construction of eight ASW-SWC ships.

Digital India Awards (DIA) 2022
- The Smart Cities Mission of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) has won the Platinum icon award in the Digital India Awards (DIA) 2022 under the Data Sharing and Use for Socio Economic Development category for the initiative “DataSmart Cities: Empowering Cities through Data”.
- DIA honours innovative digital solutions by government entities in realising Digital India vision.
- 2022 marks the 7th edition of the Digital India Awards (DIA).
About Digital India Awards (DIA):
- It is instituted under the aegis of National Portal of India to honour and encourage innovative digital solutions by government entities at all levels.
- The National Portal has been designed and developed by National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
- The Awards are presented under 7 categories
About DataSmart Cities (DSC) initiative
- It was launched under the National Urban Digital Mission (February 2021) which aims to harness the power of data for better governance in India’s 100 Smart Cities.
- It uses a three-pronged approach – People, Process, Platforms – to imbibe a culture of data awareness and data usage in city functioning.
About Smart Cities Mission
- Launched on June 25, 2015.
- Responsible Ministry – Union Ministry of Urban Development.
Tamil Chemmal Awards 2021

- TN Chief Minister M.K.Stalin presented Tamil Nadu State Awards 2021 to the Tamil scholars who have made great contributions to the Tamil language.
