New Guard Establishment

  • The Indian Army has strengthened its eastern border by setting up three new guard posts.
  • The new establishments include the Lachit Bor Phukan military station in Assam’s Dhubri district and forward posts at Kish Anganj in Bihar and So-Phra in West Bengal, all located close to the India-Bangladesh border.
  • The Siliguri corridor, a short land link to India’s eight northeastern states, is strategically important, and the additional guard posts will improve surveillance in the region, the official added.
  • Wing Commander Hi-Manshu Tiwari, Chief PRO, Ministry of Defence, Kolkata, also laid the foundation stone for the Lachit Bor Phukan military station in Pamunikhan
  • Named after an Ahom commander.
  • The Indian Army has appreciated the support extended by the Assam government and local administration for the speedy establishment of the station
