Ram Prasad Bismil

  • Born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, he was deeply influenced by the principles of the Arya Samaj from a young age.

Key Contributions

    • Revolutionary Activities: He emerged as a prominent revolutionary through the ‘Mainpuri Conspiracy’ (1918), which involved the distribution of literature banned for propagating nationalist ideas.
  • Founding the HRA: In 1924, he co-founded the ‘Hindustan Republican Association’ (HRA) alongside Sachindranath Sanyal and others; this organization was later known as the ‘Hindustan Socialist Republican Association’ (HSRA).
  • Kakori Conspiracy (1925): He planned and led the Kakori train robbery.
  • Prison Protest: While incarcerated, Bismil and his associates undertook a hunger strike to demand recognition as political prisoners and to protest against the harsh conditions within the prison.
  • Literary Work: He composed patriotic songs in Hindi and Urdu under pseudonyms such as Bismil, Ram, and Agyat.
  • Sacrifice: Following a controversial trial regarding the Kakori case, he was executed by hanging on December 19, 1927.
