Amur Vulture-Long-Distance Bird Species 

  • Context: The Amur Vulture from Manipur completed an exceptional 5,600 km non-stop journey over six days.
  • The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) has launched a special tracking project to monitor their long-distance migration.
  • As part of the project, three vulturesAppabang, Alang, and Ahu — were tagged with radio transmitters on November 11.

About Amur Vulture

  • They are small and agile birds (raptors) locally known as ‘Kahuaipuina’ in Manipur and ‘Molulem’ in Nagaland (Amur Falcon capital of the world). 
  • Their distinctive features include dark plumage, white wing linings, and reddish-orange eyes and feet.
