The UMMID (Unique Methods of Management and Treatment of Inherited Disorders) programme is an initiative of the Government of India aimed at addressing inherited genetic disorders among pregnant women and newborn babies.

Nodal Ministry: Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science & Technology to tackle inherited genetic disorders.

The programme focuses on preventing rare genetic diseases through early detection, genomic testing, and genetic counseling.
Objectives of the Programme
- Prevention and Counseling: To screen pregnant women and newborns for inherited genetic disorders and provide timely medical guidance and treatment.
- Capacity Building: To train doctors and healthcare professionals in areas such as molecular genetics, cytogenetics, and clinical genetics.
- Diagnostic Network: To establish NIDAN (National Inherited Diseases Administration) Kendras across the country for advanced diagnosis and comprehensive patient care.
Major Components
- NIDAN Kendras: Around 30 regional centers have been set up to provide prenatal testing, newborn screening, counseling, and diagnostic services in different parts of the country.
- Training Centres: Institutions such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Christian Medical College, and The Madras Medical Mission serve as centres of excellence for training healthcare professionals.
- Screening in Aspirational Districts: Special emphasis is given to aspirational districts for large-scale genetic screening of pregnant women and newborn children.
The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)
- Context:The Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), implemented by the National Health Authority under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has achieved a major milestone with over 100 crore health records successfully linked with Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA).
- The achievement marks a significant step towards building an integrated, citizen-centric and interoperable digital healthcare ecosystem in the country.
About Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM)
- ABDM was officially launched nationwide on September 27, 2021.
- ABDM is a Central Sector Scheme launched to establish an integrated digital healthcare system across India.
- It aims to help citizens, healthcare providers, and insurance agencies securely store, access, and exchange health records through a common digital platform.
Purpose
- The mission seeks to connect digital health services to ensure continuous healthcare support and better use of healthcare resources.

Objectives
- To create a strong digital framework for India’s healthcare sector.
- To improve coordination and connectivity among different stakeholders in the healthcare ecosystem.
Main Components
- ABHA and ABHA App:ABHA provides a unique 14-digit health identification number that allows individuals to access and manage their digital health records. The ABHA app enables users to upload and scan medical documents digitally.
- Health Facility Registry:A comprehensive database containing details of public and private healthcare institutions across the country.
- Healthcare Professionals Registry:A national database of healthcare workers, including practitioners of both modern medicine and traditional systems of medicine.
- Unified Health Interface (UHI):An open digital platform that supports services such as online appointments, telemedicine, and other healthcare facilities.
- Health Information Exchange and Consent Manager (HIE-CM):A system that allows citizens to securely share and access their health information based on informed consent.
- National Health Claims Exchange (HCX):A digital mechanism designed to simplify, standardize, and accelerate the processing of health insurance claims.
Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME)
- Context:Joint Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing Industries, addressed a media interaction regarding the implementation and achievements of the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) Scheme.
- During the interaction, the Ministry highlighted the scheme’s growing impact on entrepreneurship, rural livelihoods, women-led enterprises and market integration of micro food processing units.
About Pradhan Mantri Formalization of Micro food processing Enterprises (PMFME)
- Launched on 29th June 2020.
- A Centrally Sponsored Scheme ,Designed to address the challenges faced by the micro-enterprises and to tap the potential of groups and cooperatives in supporting the upgradation and formalization of these enterprises.
Aims
- Enhance the competitiveness of existing individual micro-enterprises in the unorganized segment of the food processing industry and promote formalization of the sector
- Support Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), Self Help Groups (SHGs), and Producers Cooperatives along their entire value chain.
Objectives
- Increase in access to finance by micro food processing units.
- Increase in revenues of target enterprises.
- Enhanced compliance with food quality and safety standards.
- Strengthening capacities of support systems
- Transition from the unorganized sector to the formal sector.
- Special focus on women entrepreneurs and aspirational districts.
- Focus on minor forest produce in Tribal Districts.
Period of implementation
- The scheme is operational for a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2025-26 with an outlay of Rs. 10,000 Crore. 2,00,000 micro-enterprises are to be assisted with credit linked subsidy.
- The expenditure will be shared by GOI and the States in the ratio of 60:40.
Coverage:
- Under the scheme, 2,00,000 micro food processing units will be directly assisted with credit-linked subsidies.
- Adequate supportive common infrastructure and institutional architecture will be supported to accelerate the growth of the sector.
