Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

  • Context: To implement the ‘Self-Reliant India’ initiative within the maritime sector, the Indian Maritime Foundation signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in Chennai with IIT Mumbai, IIT Chennai, and the Indian Maritime University.
  • Guided by the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ (Developed India 2047), the Central Government is actively implementing the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ (Self-Reliant India) initiative across various sectors. 
  • Accordingly, the Indian Maritime Foundation is undertaking efforts to execute various innovative projects within the maritime domain.

About the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

  • The Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan is a major initiative launched with the objective of transforming India into a self-reliant nation.
  • This scheme was launched on May 13, 2020.
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, an economic relief package worth ₹20 lakh crore was announced to support the nation.

This initiative operates by focusing on the following five key pillars:

  • Infrastructure
  • Systems
  • Vibrant Demography
  • Demand (Needs and Market)

Key Objectives of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan Initiative

  • To establish India as a Global Supply Chain Hub.
  • To enhance the government’s confidence in the capabilities and growth potential of the private sector.
  • To create effective growth catalysts (Force Multipliers) for Indian manufacturers.
  • To expand opportunities for exporting products such as agricultural produce, textiles, apparel, and jewellery to global markets.
  • To assess and enhance the self-reliance potential of every sector including defense, agriculture, healthcare, and infrastructure with the support of the FY22 Budget.

Key Schemes Implemented under the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan

Scheme to Support Startups

  • A scheme aimed at boosting domestic manufacturing and promoting exports.

Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana

  • A scheme providing free food and financial assistance to the poor.

Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS)

  • A scheme offering emergency credit assistance to Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

PM SVANidhi Scheme

  • A scheme providing low-interest loans to street vendors.

One Nation One Ration Card Scheme

  • A facility enabling individuals to procure food grains in any state using a single ration card.

PM Kisan Samman Nidhi

  • A scheme providing direct financial assistance to farmers.

Make in India

  • An initiative aimed at promoting manufacturing and investment within India.

 

PM-SHRI Scheme

  • Context: The Central Government has once again urged the Tamil Nadu Government to implement the Centre’s PM-SHRI scheme in state-run schools across Tamil Nadu.

About the Scheme

    • The PM Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) Scheme is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme launched in 2022.
    • The primary objective of this scheme is to transform existing government schools into model educational institutions based on the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).
    • The Department of School Education and Literacy is the key administrative body responsible for implementing this scheme.
  • This scheme is implemented through the existing administrative structures of Samagra Shiksha, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).
  • This Department functions under the Ministry of Education. 

Funding Pattern:

  • For General States and Union Territories with a Legislative Assembly, the funding ratio between the Central Government and the State Government is 60:40.
  • For the North-Eastern States, Himalayan States, and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the funding ratio between the Central Government and the State Government is 90:10.
  • For Union Territories without a Legislative Assembly, the Central Government provides the entire funding (100%).

A maximum of two schools will be selected in each Block / Urban Local Body (ULB)

  • One Elementary School
  • One Secondary / Senior Secondary School

 

Mission Mausam

    • Context: SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) has established the ‘Mission Mausam Urban Weather Observatory’ along with associated monitoring facilities. 
  • This initiative was developed by the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) under the aegis of the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  • The primary objective of this facility is to enhance real-time weather forecasting and climate research within an urban environment
  • Its goal is to improve the prediction of severe weather events particularly in Chennai by studying sea-breeze and land-breeze dynamics, atmospheric aerosols, and cloud characteristics.

Introduction – ‘Mission Mausam’

  • Due to its diverse topography and climatic conditions, India is significantly influenced by various weather patterns and monsoon systems.
  • Given that agriculture serves as a primary source of livelihood in India, accurate weather forecasting is absolutely essential.
  • In recognition of this critical need, the Union Cabinet approved this project on September 11, 2024.
  • This project is being implemented through the Ministry of Earth Sciences.
  • It is a major national initiative slated for implementation over a two-year period, with an estimated outlay of ₹2,000 crore.
  • The objective of this project is to position India as a global leader in the fields of weather and climate science.
  • Through this initiative, the ultimate goal is to transform India into a “Weather-Ready Nation” and a “Climate-Smart Nation.” 
  • This initiative aims to provide accurate and reliable weather and climate information to several sectors Agriculture, Disaster Management and Rural Development
